There are four different categories to apply under Business Visa

1 Investors – As of July 1, 2012, we are not accepting federal Investor applications for the time being. This is so we can focus on processing the applications we already have and review the program.

2 Entrepreneurs – CIC is not accepting applications for the federal entrepreneur program at this time. We will only process applications received before July 1, 2011. This temporary pause will go on until further notice.

3 Start-Up Visa Program – The Startup Visa Program has been designed for those foreign entrepreneurs who have the capability, skills and experience to set up a new business in Canada. The business such build expected to create new jobs in Canada and help contribute to the Canadian economy and growth If you have a creative business idea supported by the designated organization, you are welcome to Canada.

What are the key requirements of the program?

The key requirements of the visa are as follows:

Support by the designated organization: To apply for the Startup visa, you need to have support from a designated entity or organization. Such a Designated organization needs to provide a letter of support to you, which you need to submit with your application for a visa.

Language Proficiency: You must have the required level of language proficiency (CLB 5) in either English or French. Provide the test result of a recognized agency (i.e. IELTS), with an appropriate score in all four language abilities, i.e. Speaking, listening, reading, writing.

Need to have enough funds: You must show that you have enough funds to support yourself and your accompanying family members (if any) when you land in Canada. Provide proof of funds while submitting the application.

4 Self Employed Person Program – This program has been designed for those individuals who want to become self-employed after immigrating to Canada. Such applicants are expected to have experience in cultural or athletic activities (to contribute in the same) or in farm management (to purchase and manage farm) in Canada.

What are the key requirements of the Self Employed Person Program?

To become eligible to apply in the self-employed program you need to have:

Your experience as a self-employed person can be counted only if

  • You have participated in any cultural or athletic activity or event at an international level.
  • You have been self-employed in any cultural or athletics activity or
  • You have experience in farm management

Selection Criteria

Your eligibility will be assessed based on the below parameters

  • Language proficiency
  • Education
  • Experience
  • Adaptability

Medical, Security and other Requirements

You and your accompanying family members would require producing medical and character certifications.

Proof of Funds: You need to show that you have sufficient funds to support the stay of yourself and your family members accompanying you, once you arrive in Canada.
